Debuting Rob Reid's "After On" Substack Newsletter
For listeners of my podcast, readers of my novels, and followers of my writing
Hello again -
You’re getting this because at some point you signed up to receive email from me, either on my website, or via the Patreon page connected to my podcast, which is called After On.
The new home for all of my creations will be my page at Substack. If you’re not familiar with it, Substack is a hybrid of a blog and a newsletter — in that everything I create will appear on my Substack page, and will also be emailed to my Substack subscribers.
Of which you are currently one — by dint of having signed up to receive email from me once upon a time. If you don’t remember that, or don’t remember me, or are no longer interested in my work, no problem. Just unsubscribe (the link for that is wayyy at the bottom of this message), and you’ll never hear from me again, promise.
Speaking of apologies . . .
As I was setting things up yesterday, I didn’t realize that Substack is auto-configured to blast out a bizarrely bland and generic spam-like message the instant a new creator on the platform connects it to his email lists. So you probably already received a weird, off-putting note, with a subject line of “Welcome to Rob’s Substack” without mentioning who “Rob” is.
It’s strange for Substack to interrupt a new user before he has a chance to re-introduce himself to his audience, and not something I endorse. So I apologize if you found that odd note in your inbox yesterday, and promise that it will be the least-interesting thing Substack ever sends out in my name.
I launched this newsletter because I pour dozens of careful hours into creating each of my podcast episodes, and I can’t create at that scale very frequently while keeping up with a busy job and life. I’m able to write long-ish thought pieces for outside publications more frequently — but still, fairly rarely.
Yet like everyone, I often have thoughts or insights that can be laid out nicely in a few hundred words. So I now have a place to do that, and a way to share things with you more frequently. I’ll also announce and/or post all of my non-written creations here, including podcast episodes, speaking engagements, and more.
So I hope you’ll stick with me here. I plan to post a bunch of things over the next couple of weeks. And if people seem to like it, we’ll see where it goes.
Welcome back, Rob! Excited to see what's next!
